Party with DJ Saru at MUSE at Avalon

Dec 13th, 2011; 11:43 pm (GMT+8) 0

New megaclub boys night, Avalon on Sundays & Big Kid's MUSE party will be putting together X'mas 2011 on Monday, 26 December to finish off the festive weekend with a big bang.

"Since the party falls on 'Boxing' Day, we thought we should have a little DJ spin-off and fly in guest DJ Saru for the night to spin with Big Kid," says Calvin Tan, promoter of Avalon on Sundays. "They will be taking turns spinning sets of 45 mins consecutively throughout the night, and will bring their best circuit and tribal music which the boys love!"

The party will also feature hunky Go Go boys and performances. Entry is $20 per person, but a concession entry fee of $12 will be given to all NSFs and students upon proof of I.D. if you get there before 11.30pm.

Here's an interview we did with 24yr-old DJ Saru from Osaka, Japan to whet your appetite. (We think he's HOT!)

Exclusive Interview with DJ Saru from Japan!!!

1. We're really excited to have you in Singapore for the MUSE X'mas party on 26 December. When was the last time you were here and what are some of the parties you've played?
This is going to be my second time to DJ in Singapore. I was here at Club Taboo this summer and I'm so looking forward to playing again. The Singapore crowd has so much energy and power! The crowd is what really makes me move! Can't wait to be there again and see all those smiling faces!

2. You're quite the celebrity back in Japan appearing on magazine covers and various publications, how did you get your start in DJing?
I started DJing at 15, so it's been about 10 years. It all began with Hip Hop and Trance, then leading to many different sounds, bringing me to where I am now. I wouldn't call myself a celebrity, but I've always been one wanting to stand out, so modeling for magazines came naturally. I wanted to make sure I had something to remember the "me" now, so when the offers came I took them.

3. What is your craziest encounter or experience as a DJ?
Can't explain it, but I'm always looking to have the most fun! I see music as a link between people, so every time I spin it's a new, crazy and wonderful experince! Having DJ'd in Taiwan, Peking and other foreign countries, I've seen how music crosses all language barriers brings people together. Maybe that's the craziest thing!

4. What tracks and music can we expect to hear from you at MUSE?
It's hard for me to put into words what I want to express, but I'm sure everyone will feel it when I play. I'm looking to go to a deeper style and level, not stopping at just me. Want it to be a big surprise!

5. What is your one X'mas wish for 2011?
Just want to have fun and keep it that way!

6. Finally, you're doing a "versus" at MUSE against Big Kid, so who's gonna be on TOP? You or Big Kid? :)
Me of course! I like to be on TOP. lol...Just joking. Big Kid & me will be taking turns spinning 45min sets one after another, so it'll be fun to see our chemistry in the DJ booth and how we can get everyone on the dancefloor excited! See you soon! I can't wait!

Exclusive Interview with Joe Gauthreaux!!!

DR: Tell us a lil bout yourself. Like how did u get into the whole DJ-ing deal? What made you start DJ-ing?
JG: I started going out to nightclubs in New Orleans when I was about 16 years old. I guess after a somewhat sheltered childhood the dance scene just made me feel so free and alive. Before I knew it, I was buying all the music I heard in the clubs--this was before the days of downloading. I convinced a DJ friend to teach me the ropes. Before long, I had given a club near my home a mixed tape that I had made. They liked what they heard and hired me. This was back in 1996.

What kind of music do you like? and what's your fave songs at the moment?
I love vocals and tribal music. Some of my favorites right now are "Take Me Higher" by Debby Holiday, and the new mix of "missing" by Everything but the girl

What can party goers look out for at Songkran 5?
This will be my third time DJing for Song Kran and I am sooo excited!! Now that I am producing I have a lot of exclusive remixes and edits that you won't hear or be able to download anywhere else!!! I work very hard to try & make my set sound special and unique.

Any embarrassing/exciting spinning experiences?
I recently DJ'd a party for White Party in Miami on the Beach for over 2000 people. It was such an amazing experience seeing everyone dancing under the stars to my music. Nights like that always stay with me!

What can fans look out for in there near future from you?
I've been working in the studio a lot recently on my own remixes, as well as producing my own tracks.. I have new remixes coming out by Debby Holiday, DJ Ranny, Abigail, Charo, and more... I'm having so much fun remixing right now.

Exclusive Interview with MOTO BLANCO!!!

DR: Tell us a lil bout yourself. Like how did u get into the whole DJ-ing deal? What made you start DJ-ing?
MB: I was lucky enough to be born into a family where music was important, our house was always full of good songs. I started out as a Dj and working in record stores (very Hi-Fidelity) and then gradually realised that i wanted to create my own music. As for being a Dj it was just a love of music really. I know a few dj’s have said this before but it was really just a way of playing music that you thought was amazing to people that may not of heard it. I worked in record shops when i left school, and it was like my dream job... “have you heard this?? Did you get that??” . If i wasn't a dj id still be boring you all now playing you music that i think is great haha!!

What kind of music do you like? and what's your fave songs at the moment?
Its cliché i know but i love all types of music, i think you've got to. And with the internet now its so easy to find..... i can lose a good 4 hours trawling through websites finding some amazing stuff. My real passion is for disco & soul though, as much as you think you know there are always more treasures to find. I have too many favourites to mention at the moment but on repeat are the Adele CD, Syreeta “Move it do it”, Cassius “I love you so” , Chilly Gonzales “U can dance” and anything by Burt Bacharach.

What can party goers look out for at Songkran 5?
Hopefully a good time ha ha! A mix of some songs you know and some you don't... and some you've never heard because we've just made them !!

Any embarrassing/exciting spinning experiences?
Ha too many to mention...im joking!! The embarrassing ones usually involve alcohol or a broken cd. But the exciting ones make up for them.

What can fans look out for in there near future from you?
More gigs, more remixes and some new projects. I'm just finishing a track with Jeanie Tracy, Wayne G & Andy Allder which I'm really excited about . Also remixes forthcoming from Adele, the Wanted, and many more. Life is good...

Exclusive Jayson Forbes Interview!

Nov 26th, 2010; 10:10 am (GMT+8) 0
Check out our EXCLUSIVE interview with DJ Jayson Forbes from Australia!

Lai Liao returns To Orchard Towers with DJ Jayson Forbes who will be here in Singapore for his debut spin this November 28th. The second time round at the venue! It's defintely gonna be a night to remember! HOT boys! HOT music! and HOT venue! WOOHOO!

Don't forget to follow the Facebook Event Page for the details of the party!

Lets go on with the interview, shall we?

DR: How did you discover your love for spinning?
JF: Back in the school days I discovered the 12" remix and later on CD maxi singles. Great as it was to have an ever growing collection of remixes and spending a lot of money buying them, all they were doing were popping out at parties or ending up on mix tapes for friends. I began clubbing in SydneyDJ in the early 90's, admiring the work of the DJ's who were spinning. It was then that I began to take note of the skills and techniques of a DJ. The fusion of tracks together, remixes of songs that people had never heard and experiencing the thrill it brought to the club patrons.

It wasn't until I purchased my first set of decks that I realised I was in love! I soon put my remix collection to good use. A lot of hard hours and many demo's later I soon landed my first residency which I still hold today at Arq night club, followed by a residency at Homesexual, topped that with playing back to back with Shigeki at the 2006 Mardi Gras Party in Sydney. This was jus the beginning of what has become an incredible journey.

How does it feel like to work with big names like Tony Moran, Offer Nissim duo Freemasons and Dannii Minogue?
I been very fortunate to play alongside some of the really names in the industry. It's one thing to have been influenced by their styles and certainly giving their productions a lot of air time in my sets, but an absolute honour to share the main room with them. Each of them have left their own mark on me and I suppose what eventually makes up the DNA of me as a DJ.

Where do you draw inspirations from?
I can't deny I have a major influence from the USA. A combination of circuit, progressive and tribal house. I've followed quite of few of the staple name DJ's for years now and am often inspired by the productions released by the likes of Tony Moran, Peter Rauhofer, Ralphi Rosario, DJ Paulo and Offer Nissim. Each of them add an ingredient to the mix and it's how you bring that all together is what identifies your sound.

Any exciting/embarassing moments?
I would have to say the most exciting moment to date was my first gig with Tony Moran. We'd met for a sound check prior to the event, but it wasn't until that night when he took over from me on the decks I had to pinch myself that I just opened for Tony. Most embarrassing moment also happened on the same night. After my set I got Tony to sign my copy of The Promise. Pen and CD in hand, looking like a total fan! I have to say though that the CD certainly holds a lot of memories for me.

What can fans look out for in your upcoming gig in Singapore?
I am really excited to be able to come up to Singapore to play. You can expect a total signature set full of vocals and great melodies, with a few surprise tracks along the way. A total salute to the dance floor.

Before we end... enjoy this mixset from DJ Jason Forbes.
